About Us

The island of Bali has a particularly unique history, visitors come to Bali and fall in love with the culture, the friendliness of the people and the strong sense of connection with nature.  This rich culture and easy going Balinese lifestyle was able to develop over the centuries because of the balanced and productive traditional agriculture industry. By just understanding and acting in harmony with nature they were able to maintain fertility of the soil, water source, and control pests without chemicals.

Using a business and production model that includes agroforestry, organic, multi cropping and social enterprise, we hope to provide benefit to local Indonesian farmers through community empowerment, increased income, better health and improved environmental conditions.

Bali Farmers is working directly with over 2000 small scale farmers in Bali to help them connect with the global community. Our direct connection with the farmers ensures that our customers get the best quality products at competitive prices. With this business model we are able to offer a wide scale of agricultural products to our customers and bring the best products with a fair trade from sustainable farming practices.

We also pay special attention to mentor, uplift and monitor the quality and consistency of small scale farmers products, to insure all aspects meet the criteria and needs of the global marketplace.

In harmony with Nature

“The Subak reflects the philosophical concept of Tri Hita Karana, which brings together the realms of the spirit, the human world and nature” (UNESCO)

Subak is the way of life of Old Balinese Farmers.  The Subak provided a complex yet practical system of sharing resources, from water to workforce; in a win win situation for all.   By just understanding and acting in harmony with nature they were able to maintain fertility of the soil, water source, and control pests without chemicals. The Subak system in Bali, also set the stage for community based agriculture that continues in Bali to this day.

Unfortunately, since the so called green revolution of the 1970s where commercial, non organic farming practices and products were introduced and pushed on Indonesia’s farmers, the environment and soil health have been deteriorating.  In addition, high taxes and low profits for farmers have induced them to sell their farm land to developers.  These factors have had a devastating effect on the environment.

Tito Alba owl project is an eco-system preserving natural pest control system.

Owls are natural predators, they can help to clear the fields of rats, mice, and other rodents that eat and damage crops. Pujo Arto, a Balinese farmer instead of using chemicals or other unnatural methods to get rid of the rats and mice of his filed, decided to use their natural enemy, owls. From his idea grew the Natural Predator Program, and now farmers uses the birds as a pest control system and there is no need for chemical pesticides, which can harm not only rodents, but other animals.

The Natural Predator Program raised awareness in the community about the importance of owls, and the government also started to support the project.
